What exactly is that ?

Sameera Reddy walking the ramp for designer Falguni and Shane, at Wills India Fashion Week ’09 : What is this – the design from scrap contest ? (And I’m not talking about Sameera). Also look at the audience – they seem slack-jawed in shock.

Music : blast from the past

Two beautiful songs I re-heard recently. The first is “Maeri” by “Euphoria”, whose lead singer is Palash Sen. Sen is a doctor who also sings, or it could be the other way around. Euphoria’s songs are mostly energetic, almost folksy numbers, with an urban twist. Maeri is comparitively a soft, slow number : [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E1xbX-QSGY] The […]

The Spice of Life

As I travel to India nowadays, I find that I get “softer” with each visit. Food gets to me sooner. I love roadside food, the pani-puri, the chola-bhatura, the aloo-tikki frying tantalizingly in all that glorious oil. It’s hard though to enjoy all that without falling sick at least once – especially with water-based products […]

Music for Fridays

An absolutely gorgeous song from the “Plain White Ts” – “Hey there Delilah”. Am so thankful that geniuses abound; take a listen : [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbJtYqBYCV8] And a totally bindaas desi number from the film “Cash”. Haven’t seen the film, but this song is pretty well done. And desi bindaas is hard, especially on film : [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7yL1pw81rI]

My (mis)adventures with Clutter

I need my car keys. I delve inside my handbag. No go. Not there ? I open the handbag, along it’s length, and look inside. Which is kind of awkward because I’m in the middle of a crowded theater lobby, crowds swilling around me, and I’m sort of balancing on one knee, the other bent […]

MTV Roadies – The Show

I don’t watch many reality shows. However one that really has me hooked is “MTV Roadies”. I’ve heard that it was originally inspired from a US show of similar genre, but definitely adapts (and makes excellent TV viewing) to the desi climate. It’s in it’s fifth season, and comprises of 13 youngsters (18-22 from the […]

Living at IKEA

Anyone see this ? CNN reports : “When Mark Malkoff thought about where he could stay while his New York City apartment was being fumigated for cockroaches, he quickly ruled out friends’ places (too small) and hotels (too expensive). Instead, the comedian and filmmaker decided to move into an Ikea store in suburban New Jersey, […]

The Holiday Season (and all it brings)

One of my friends is going on a no alcohol and no meat diet from this year. It’s apparently already started. I’m not sure how long it’ll last. Also, more and more of the folks I know are getting pretty sociable. And that’s not relative to me, since I’m not the most sociable cat in […]
